Objective

Provide quality, professional legal advice in accordance with the Federal Constitution and Malaysian laws to the Ministry of Economy.

  • Provide quality written legal advice and advice within 14 working days from the date of receipt of complete documents and information with policy conditions and financial issues finalized by the Department/Division/Unit, while for complex legal issues, within 30 working days or after a referral is made to the Attorney General's Department.
  • Reviewing and drafting agreements and other legal documents within 14 working days from the date of receipt of complete documents and information with policy conditions and financial issues finalized by the Department/Division/Unit, while for more complex agreements and legal documents, within 30 working days or after a referral is made to the Attorney General's Office.
  • Review and draft international instruments and documents such as agreements, memorandums of understanding, declarations and joint communiqués within 14 working days and for more complex international instruments and documents, within 30 working days or after a referral is made to the Attorney General's Department.
  • Review investigation papers and give prosecution instructions to initiate any case under the Gas Supply Act 1993 [Act 501] from the date received, or obtain instructions from the Public Prosecutor/Deputy Public Prosecutor, Attorney General's Department for necessary cases within the appropriate time period.
  • Execute instructions and handle a legal action on behalf of the Malaysian Government/Department if directed by the Attorney General within the specified period or by ensuring that preliminary actions are implemented within a period not exceeding 10 weeks from the date the instruction is received.
  • Review or prepare drafts of primary/subsidiary legislation within 40 working days provided that legislative and policy issues are finalized, as well as submit drafts for review and approval by Parliamentarians/Attorney General's Department.
